An illustrated version of the third episode of Harbin, a historical podcast by Libo/Libo Studio based on the audio archive of Memorial.
The episode tells the story of more than 20,000 people who left Harbin for the Soviet Union in the 1930s, many of whom were later targeted during the Great Terror in what became known as the NKVD’s “Harbin Operation.”
The illustrations were created as a visual interpretation of the episode, combining its historical narrative with archival stories and individual experiences.
Special thanks to researcher Sergey Prudovsky, whose many years of work on the cases of repressed Harbin residents and the documents of the Harbin Operation made an important contribution to preserving and reconstructing this history.
