Lev Nikolayev.
Kharkiv. Diary 1941-1943
These are fragments from the diary of Lev Nikolaev, who lived in Kharkiv.
The war destroyed the life of this world-renowned professor and medical doctor, forcing him to abandon his scientific work and leaving him on the brink of starvation. The pages of the diary, kept between October 1941 and August 1943, reveal the devastation of the civilian population, the corruption of the occupation authorities and the falsification of science to justify war crimes. Despite the harshest conditions and risks, Lev Nikolaev's family participated in the anti-fascist movement, which did not save the professor's son from arrest and death in the NKVD camps immediately after the liberation of the city.
